Congratulations to all 42 people who successfully completed the second annual Focus Ireland Highest Peak Challenge on Saturday 14th August 2010. This group of determined, tough and good natured people endured the rain and poor visibility to conquer Carrauntoohil, Ireland's Highest Peak, to help people who are homeless. So far over €21,000 has been raised with money still coming in!
The fun filled weekend got off to a great early morning start at the International Youth Hostel in Killarney where registration took place before the group were bused to the base of Carrauntoohil for the start of their epic 3414 ft climb!
Once everyone was down safe we made our way to the Golden Nugget pub for (one or two!) well deserved drinks and the award ceremony. Prizes were awarded for the "Hare and the Tortoise" Award. The prize for the Hare went to Eugene Horan. It was Eugenes 2nd time taking part in the Highest Peak Challenge and he managed to do the climb in a fantastic 4 hours and 52 minutes! The Tortoise award was awarded to a fantastic couple Cliona and Andrew Murray!
The "Best Dressed" award went to Dave Yeats for keeping the sun shinging through the rain clouds in his Hawaiian Shirt! And finally the "Biggest Blister" Award went to a hobbling Karen Walsh.
As people are still bringing in their sponsorship money we decided to leave the "Best Fundraiser" Award to be announced on Friday 27th August.
The weekend was not only challenging but also great fund and the group had lots of laughs! We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
