The Rules
Rules of the Four Peaks Challenge
Please take a moment to read the following rules of the challenge as these will need to be followed in order to successfully complete the challenge. We have also included some points to consider before signing up!
- Teams must be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 walkers plus a minimum of 2 drivers per vehicle. The drivers must split the driving between them and provide support for the walkers. Please click on Drivers Information.
- Each team must submit the minimum sponsorship of €3,800, 50% to be paid one month in advance of the challenge and 50% to be paid six weeks after the event at the latest. Failure to comply will forfeit your team's place in the challenge. If you are unable to collect your minimum sponsorship at this point you will be asked to make the difference up yourselves and refund it when you have collected the balance. We will accept letters of guarantee from corporate sponsors who may not give you the sponsorship money until after the event has taken place.
- Teams must be equipped with all the necessary gear as outlined in the Equipment List (82KB). Equipment checks will be performed before each climb. For safety reasons, we are obliged to withdraw any team from the challenge that is not properly equipped, clothed and booted.
- A team is deemed to have completed a climb only when all team members have finished, except where someone is forced to retire due to injury or fatigue.
- Climbing routes are pre-set and teams must follow these routes. There will be a specified time allowed to climb each mountain, dependant on remaining daylight and weather conditions. If a team exceeds this time, they may be asked to withdraw from that particular climb for safety reasons. To view the climbing routes that all teams will follow, download our Climbing Routes (83KB).
- Any team found to be driving beyond normal speed limits, or in a dangerous manner will be asked to withdraw from the challenge. All climb times and driving times are based on realistic and achievable speeds without endangerment.
- Equal points are awarded to all teams for their driving times, regardless of the actual time it takes to complete each particular drive.
- Your team's actual climbing time is individually recorded. However, each team member must complete the climb before a finishing time can be recorded. Your final times will be determined only by the time it takes to complete each climb, plus set driving times.
- The most important rule of all is to have a great time; it will be a weekend you'll never forget!
- Please remember that this is a fundraising challenge and is not designed to be a competitive race.
Four Things to consider before signing up!
- You can be guaranteed a great weekend! However, this weekend is designed to be tough. It is a test of planning, skill, teamwork, endurance and fitness. You should also prepare for little sleep, demanding climbs and times when you may be cold, wet and uncomfortable!
- You must put together a team yourself as we do not accept individual applications.
- This event involves a lot of driving - a total round trip of about 800 miles, so be prepared to spend a lot of time in the car as well as climbing mountains.
- If you work you will have to take the Friday off. We would strongly recommend you also take the Monday off to recover!
