Hundreds of schools and students sleep out each year and raise vital funds and awareness while experiencing some of the challenges faced by those who are homeless. Be part of something amazing and help fight homelessness by taking part in Focus Ireland’s Great School Sleep Out.
This really is a fantastic group activity where students work together to organise the sleep out, fundraise and have an enlightening experience. Ireland’s young adults have a huge capacity for empathy. So many young people and very young children are now affected by homelessness. It’s so positive that students in schools across Ireland are taking such innovative action to support these young people who are facing such a huge challenge and helping them change their lives for the better.
The Great School Sleep-out gives everyone that takes part a sense of the challenges felt by young people who are homeless. But even more than that, it lets young people in Ireland facing and experiencing homelessness know that they are not alone. By increasing education around homelessness and by raising crucial funds so that we can continue to reach the rising numbers of young people needing our support, you show them you care.
Here’s what Ellen Arrigan a 5th Year student from Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School Waterford said about sleeping out for Focus Ireland:
Your school or your classmates can take part in the challenge at any time of the year and we will support you when you do:
* We will provide you with information about the impact of homelessness on young people.
* We want you to be safe so we will provide you with full guidelines on how to organise a safe sleep-out.
* We will provide fundraising support and advice to help you advertise your event.
All funds raised will support families and young people at risk of homelessness or who have already lost their home. To take part in the Great School Sleep Out please email firstname.lastname@example.org
