Organising Your Own Event

There are so many ways to get involved with our work and support for Focus Ireland. Fundraising is vital for Focus Ireland to continue its work.
If you want to support our work, gather your friends, neighbours, family, colleagues and community and hold a fun event in aid of Focus Ireland.

If you have any questions or queries about setting up your own event, please don’t hesitate to contact us by filling the form or calling on

1. Choose Your Event

Something that is easy, achievable and that others will support.

Check out our Fundraising Ideas and decide what would appeal most to the people you know.

Rule No. 1: You should be able to name at least 50% of people who you know will take part in/attend the event before you start. Remember, advertising does not sell tickets, even a great idea does not sell tickets. Only people sell tickets.

2. Register Your Event with Focus Ireland

Get in touch with us and let us know you are holding a fundraiser. Email events@focusireland.ie or phone 01 888 5900 and we will send you a fundraising form and support your fundraiser with advice and marketing materials.

3. Organise Your Own Event

Get help from friends, family, colleagues or your local community. Draw up a budget and goals for the event, set yourself a fundraising target and figure out what your event is, who it is for and how people can support your event.

If you are selling tickets, figure out the number of tickets to be sold or for a raffle, the number of raffle prizes to be obtained, and the price of each for you to reach your fundraising target.

Make a checklist of everything you need and ensure you have all legal insurance and permits covered (if applicable). If it is a larger event, draw up a plan of action with action items, a deadline for each action, and a person assigned to each action.

Are there other ways you can raise income, e.g. by adding a raffle or auction, or by asking companies or friends to provide cash sponsorship?

4. Promote Your Event

After you have begun to organise your event and confirmed the details, you can start promoting the event.

Use social media, posters, flyers, emails, local media and word of mouth to promote your event.

Additionally, online fundraising pages are a great start for promoting and fundraising! You can set up an online fundraising page on JustGiving or Idonate today.

5. Fundraise

Whether you are selling tickets, getting sponsorship, holding a raffle or shaking buckets be sure you have people who will contribute to your event.

6. Run Your Event & Be Proud!

Plan the event in as much detail as you can, will you need help to collect prizes, sell raffle tickets, make a speech etc? Will you need people to help clean up? Get help from friends, family and colleagues if you need. This means that things will run smoothly on the night!

And most importantly enjoy your event and be proud! You have helped those experiencing homelessness in Ireland.
