As EU citizens we must strongly protest at the decision of the Hungarian Government to further criminalise homelessness by amending the Hungarian constitution to ban habitual residence in a public space.
We do not believe that criminalising those experiencing homelessness can ever be the answer. Homelessness is a structural and societal problem; it is not a choice. Criminalisation risks further marginalisation and usually serves only to drive people into hidden homelessness and out of the reach of support services.
