Budget 2026 Must Tackle Record Child Homelessness as Over 5,000 Children Left Without a Home

Focus Ireland today launched its pre-Budget 2026 submission. The submission calls on Government to take significant action in Budget 2026 and introduce measures that will make a real difference both to prevent people becoming homeless and to support those currently experiencing homelessness to find a home.

As homelessness reaches new record of 16,353, Focus Ireland calls for urgent action to increase social housing supply and prevent long-term homelessness

New figures issued by the Department of Housing for August show another record total of 16,353 people now homeless. This marks an increase of 295 people for August, compared with the previous month. The figures show homelessness has risen 13% in the past year. For the month of August there were 5,145 children and 2,391 families homeless.

Focus Ireland launches No Child Without a Home campaign calling for the public to sign petition to help end child homelessness.

Focus Ireland launched its No Child Without a Home campaign today which aims to help drive work to end child homelessness.  For good. The campaign is asking people to add their name to a petition to government which outlines a 5-point plan that Focus Ireland maintains would significantly help efforts to tackle child homelessness.

As homelessness reaches new record of 16,058 Focus Ireland says new Government Housing and Homeless plan must be a blueprint for both increasing housing supply & ending homelessness

New figures issued by the Department of Housing show another record total of 16,058 people now homeless. This is an increase of 143 people for July 2025 on the 15,915 people homeless in June. The figures show that homelessness has risen 11% in the last year when compared with July 2024.

Focus Ireland Launches Powerful “Journey Home” Photo Exhibition in Sligo, Showcasing Voices of People with Lived Experience of Homelessness 

The Mayor of Sligo borough Cllr Gino O'Boyle today (Aug 26th) officially opened Journey Home, a compelling exhibition created by Focus Ireland's first panel of LEAP Ambassadors.  The exhibition, (launched at a special event in the Hyde Bridge Gallery, which is on the first floor of the Yeats Society Sligo) features powerful photographic stories from individuals who have experienced homelessness, offering a deeply personal and moving insight into their journeys.  The exhibition runs from 2pm Tuesday 26th August to 3pm Saturday 30th August.
